ABOUT

What is Wrong Pill?

One person making VST plugins, for fun. Useful tools that look like old PlayStation games.

I got tired of every VST looking the same. So I made mine like a video game.

THE DEVELOPER (ROUGHLY)

The idea

Most plugins are made to blend in: grey panels, neat knobs, the same rack look you've seen a thousand times. They work, but I forget them five minutes later.

Wrong Pill plugins are simple tools you'd actually put on a channel. Each one has one strange thing about it: how it behaves, how you use it, or how it looks.

The look comes from late-90s PlayStation games and old Windows software. Low-poly rooms, wobbly polygons, dithered colours, chunky windows.

WHO'S BEHIND IT

One person.

Hi. I make these on my own, for fun. Code, visuals, marketing and support are all me.

NICOTINE is my first VST. Yes, it's gimmicky. It's also a properly useful saturator, and that mix is kind of the whole point of Wrong Pill.

Buying NICOTINE is what lets me keep making plugins like this. The next ones will be better.

Since it's just me, there will probably be bugs. If you find one, tell me and I'll fix it. Thanks for being patient.

How I make them

  1. step_01.txt
    01

    Make it useful first

It starts as a normal tool you'd actually use on a track. Few controls, good sound. If it isn't useful without the gimmick, I don't release it.

  2. step_02.txt
    02

    Add one weird thing

Then I break one rule on purpose. How it reacts, how you control it, or how it looks. Something that makes you go "wait, what?" and keep using it anyway.

  3. step_03.txt
    03

Make it look like a game

Low-poly rooms, crunchy textures, old Windows menus. It should feel like something off a PS1 demo disc, not another rack unit.

Solo

It's just me. Code, visuals, marketing and support.

Honest

No fake reviews or fake countdowns. If something isn't ready, the site says so.

Playful

Weird and fun, but never mean or edgy just for the sake of it.

Runs fine

It looks retro, but it's built properly, so it should run on a normal laptop.
