02 / WHAT IT DOES

A real tool. One weird idea.

A saturation and distortion plugin that looks like a burning cigarette. You pick what you smoke, turn up BURN, and the ASH adds something weird on top. It's gimmicky, but it's a real saturator that works on kicks, 808s, vocals and the master bus.

▲ THE WEIRD PART

There are 8 things to smoke: Cigarette, Menthol, Cigarillo, Cigar, Hand Rolled, Joint, Pipe and Vape. Each one has its own saturation curve and its own ASH effect, and the plugin itself is a smoky room you see in first person.

03 / FEATURES

Features

  1. 01

    BURN

Saturation that reacts to how hard you play. A long loud note burns hotter than a short hit at the same setting. At 0 it does nothing to your sound.

  2. 02

    8 characters

Each one has its own saturation curve, from warm tape to wobbly to bit-crushed, and its own ASH effect.

  3. 03

    ASH

Mixes in the effect of the thing you're smoking: Octave Bloom, Crystal, Cherry, Withdrawal, Lungs, Haze or Bitcrusher. Most have up to 3 extra controls.

  4. 04

    SMOKE

A low-pass filter after the saturation, to darken it and cut the fizz.

  5. 05

    SYNC

The ASH movement locks to your DAW's tempo and bar position, so the same bar always sounds the same. You pick the wave shape on the TV screen.

  6. 06

    43 presets

For kicks, snares, hats, 808s, keys, vocals, FX and the master bus. Also: output, dry/wet mix and 2x / 4x oversampling.

04 / LISTEN

Audio examples

Switch between DRY and each setting to hear it with and without the plugin. The room up top reacts to what you play.

A NOTE FROM ME
NICOTINE is my first VST. Buying it is what lets me keep making weird plugins like this, and the next ones will be better. I'm one person doing the code, visuals, marketing and support, so if you hit a bug (there probably will be some), tell me and be patient.
